Facing My Fears: Making a Horror Film Trailer

I recently decided to tackle something that absolutely terrifies me: creating a trailer for a horror film.

Now, let me be clear—I’m not a fan of scary movies. When I do watch them, it’s usually late at night, on mute, as I wait for my kids to fall asleep. Even then, I’ll only watch the first five minutes and skip to the last ten, piecing together the story from there.

Have you ever noticed how most horror trailers spoil the entire plot? Take The Stranger: Chapter One as an example. After watching the trailer, there’s no real reason to see the film—you already know what’s going to happen.

I wanted to do something different. I teamed up with Ankuur to create a trailer that doesn’t just avoid spoilers—it intrigues, hints, and leaves you wanting more.

If we ever get the chance to turn this idea into a full-fledged film (fingers crossed for funding!), here’s what it would be about:

Ashley’s Relentless Quest for Love

Sarah’s desire for love and marriage isn’t just a dream—it’s her salvation. Beneath her bright smile lies a painful past marked by an abusive father and her parents’ bitter divorce. These wounds left her craving the stability and validation she never had.

After a string of failed relationships, Sarah’s hope begins to crumble. Heartbreak and unresolved trauma drive her to an obsessive, all-consuming mission: to find “the one” at any cost. As her grip on reality fades, she ventures into dark and uncharted territory, where rejection is no longer an option, and love becomes something to be claimed.

Her perception of right and wrong blurs with each choice she makes. What starts as a quest for connection spirals into a chilling descent, leaving one haunting question: Will Sarah find love—or will she drag everyone down with her?

When was the last time you did something that absolutely terrified you?

If fear is the only thing holding you back, maybe that’s the very reason you should do it.
