The Single Piece of Advice that Changed My Life

Have you ever received honest, yet loving feedback from someone?

How did it feel? If anything, I hope it inspired you.

In 2015, I had a one-on-one conversation with legendary photographer Joe McNally, and it absolutely changed my life.

We were at Photoshop World in Las Vegas, NV., and unlike the cliche saying “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” I am actually going to tell you what happened.

I am going to fan-boy out for a minute, but I kid you not when I saw this, I honestly wanted to make a t-shirt with Joe’s face on it… Why?

So I could wear it to Photoshop World.

I wanted him to look at my portfolio, and that’s exactly what he did.

And for those who don’t know Joe McNally, he is a world class photographer who has told stories from around the world.

He is also the person that inspired me to pick up a camera and start shooting.

I'll never forget what he told me… “You have to make me care about what you are shooting.”

There’s more, but in short, that piece of advice changed my life.

Although this story is personal, the lesson and advice can be applied to anyone, including you.

Until next time.

Roger out.
